Title: Low Water Telltale MCI7
Post by: Stormcloud on March 28, 2009, 03:58:36 PM
Hi,all:

My 'Low Water' telltale light is lit on the MCI-7, but it's fibbing.
I added about 5 gallons of fluid (till it was running out the filltube), and the light is still on.

The maintenance manual refers to a low water t-n-l sensor, but doesnt say where it is.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Mark

hey,
i'm not sure on a 7, but on an 8 , the low water tell tale sensor is  in the expansion tank above the rad blowers. it is a fairly large- 3/4 pipe ,i think, with 3 terminals.
good luck on that

Hello:
It (the sensor) is on the left side of the expansion tank and wire no 10 black/ red is on terminal 51 in the front J box.  mine never worked and was disconnected when I got the bus.  One idea that you may like to try will solve the problem.
There is a valve on the other side that you can crack and check to see if any antifreeze comes out.  That valve is usually frozen so be prepared to replace it when it breaks as you are trying to open it.  I suggest you get a replacement valve and a short piece of tubing so that you can operate the valve at some interval that makes you feel comfortable. You can route the tubing down to the ground.  If you have to open the upper compartment to use this valve then you can give a lookaround to see how the blower system looks and the condition of the upper compartment..  Obviously when the antifreeze is hot the level is higher therefore I would suggest you check it cold.   I found a little  valve on another bus that was used for this purpose and it was made of brass and had an overcenter handle..  works nicely.
  Just another idea..
