Title: Jake Brakes on Ebay, I have a question for the experts
Post by: scanzel on March 10, 2009, 06:07:58 PM
I noticed some Jake brakes on ebay for sale item 120388551008 and 140305800939 and was wondering if this is something to consider buying. Is this a good deal or is it buyer beware. I have an 8V92 in my Prevost with a 6 speed spicer. How much work is it to install them and how much would it possibly be to have someone install them?

I do not know the average cost on these.  I lot would seem to depend on the condition and if they are backed in some way.  They are used and not much else is said about them.  I remember seeing something recently the Don Fairchild and Songman were selling rebuilt Jakes.  I think the price was around $900.  Obviously it's more money, but if you really think that you need them, the confidence in them working correctly would seem to be worth a bit.

That's not a bad price with the valve covers included if they work, Don's are rebuilt and come with the fuel lines but no valve covers if the solenoids are bad that could cost another 400 bucks,I see he doesn't have the wiring harness or the buffer switch.I would go for the rebuilt set from Don you will have the right voltage the seller on EBay doesn't specify what voltage the set is 12v or 24v, he does have a good buy on the fuel lines and he seems to know what he is talking about may be a bargain if he will give some type a warranty if not I would not touch the Jakes.Just me but I have this thing about parts in a Costco box.To anwer your question about installation it will be around a 8 to 10hr job without the wiring   good luck
