Title: Awning fabric stretch?
Post by: grantgoold on March 09, 2009, 10:24:15 PM
Anyone have problems with awning fabric stretch. It looks like an awning of mine has stretch so much that I am about 1 rotation short of complete closure. Anybody replaced their fabric and solved the problem. I have reset the limit switch settings and the motor rotates and then stops. Per the instructions (somfy) I have pulled out the limit buttons and supposed to have unlimted rotations (within limits).

From the technical manuals, it appears that I have 46 rotations from fully out to fully in? I will count tomorrow just how many I am getting.

The fabric is at least 6 years old and trashed.

Anybody have some ideas of why I cannot get a full recoil.

This is a retractable lateral awning 14 feet wide and will extend 10 feet.

Thanks

Grant

Grant, what brand of awning do you have and is the fabric a vinyl or Sunberlla cover, vinyl will stretch but the Sunbrella won't.I can help a little with the Zip/Dee or the Gerard but not much on the other brands.I would check the wrap on the drum to start with and make sure it is correct Zip/Dee is pretty straight forward the drum goes through the fabric and is riveted to the drum.

good luck

The awning is from ABC (now defunct). From what I can tell, this is a standard non-cassette retractable lateral arm awning. I have fabricated the cassette for the entire unit. I have not been able to determine which somfy motor is inside as I will do that when I go to replace the fabric and pull the entire roller unit apart. It looks like I have a 3 inch roller tube. Like I said the fabric is cloth and completely trashed.

Thanks
