You can't go wrong staying at Ocean Lakes. All lots are Pull Through and a lot of them are concreted. I've stayed there many times. It is basically a town within the Resort. It is on the Ocean where Hwy 544 and Hwy 17 meet about 20 miles south of Conway.    http://www.oceanlakes.com/

We like Myrtle Beach State Park if you don't have to have all the pool and such.  It included the ghost tour at Huntington beach State Park.

Lot's of seafood to be eaten in Murrells Inlet and Calabash.

Lot's will be closed due to off season, look for bargains

You'll probably walk on beach and wade but not ready for swimming

More golf then you can shake a golf stick at. ;D

Not sure how many, age bracket, and direction you intend to travel. There's the Biltmore House in Ashville, Gatlinbutg/Pigeon Forge in Tenn.  Ski hills in the mountains.

Keep us posted :)

As said before Ocean Lakes is a great place to stay. We have a house in there and pretty much turned our kid loose to roam. Good security and family atmosphere. A day trip to Charleston is great. Lots of old buildings and houses from the civil war. The Yorktown aircraft carrier as well as several other ships and subs also at the same place.

Well almost good security... I had a $1800.00 bicycle stolen a few years back while staying there in the 2000 section but I can't really blame their security since I didn't have it locked up... Just thankful my insurance covered it. Just make sure you follow their 10mph limit especially if you are on a golfcart.

Rick...if you get close by to where your brother lived, you can visit Reed Gold Mine if you haven't already. It is a North Carolina State Historic Site. It is the site of the first gold discovery in America in 1799. Over 2000 acres of beautiful forest with nature trails, a large museum, a place to pan for gold, and you can tour underground in one of the caves. It is all free except for the panning for gold which I think is around $2.00.  Best part about it is that it is only 1/2 mile from me..
