Hi All
Just got a call from Randy - he was on his way here to Daytona for BIKE Week -
His GMC 5302 & 6v92ta with C65 injectors broke down - Stuck injector - causing wide open throttle
he's safely off the road at I75 ext 11 pilot truck stop
The STUCK INJECT (already removed) - appears to be a Reliabuilt C65 with a D/D 390 number on it - He needs the part
I've put him in touch with Greg Pagica ( http://www.cruiser-magazine.com/Help_assist_data_base.html ) -
Anybody have an injector for him now OVER THE WEEKEND
He can do the repair - he JUST NEEDS THE PART
It's raining in Ga. - 4 guys in the bus - and a trailer full of Harleys
Randy's cell# - ...262..498.7878...
Got a question from Randy
He managed to close the injector - can he put it back in the engine so that it doesn't INJECT anymore
(for fear it will sieze open again)
OR
Does a Detroit Diesel NEED DIESEL FUEL TO LUBRICATE THE CYCLINDER WALL AND PISTON/RINGS
If you know for sure - please call randy (see first post for phone#) and tell him
He can change it back in tonite - IF IT WILL NOT DISTROY his engine ??
Pete
Pete, I have some 92 series injectors but I think he has 71 series with the c65 injector that is not a injector for the 92 series and running wide open with a stuck injector doesn't sound right for a 92 series.I am in Az and it will be Mon before I could ship to him but will keep trying to call
good luck
It won't hurt it, they come in down a hole often enough. Since its just a core at this point, slide it apart and polish the plunger up with some very fine paper, maybe it will fire. Watch the oil level, if it gains a gallon, change it out and just dump the filter and put it back on.
It will be down on power and vibrate some so just keep it wound up if you come to a hill, but its plenty flat the rest of the way to Daytona.
Is it low on fuel? Does he use Power Service? Just curious....
He was pulling for fuel when it wouldn;t idol down. He doesn't use any fuel additives the last few tanks anyways. Shel(Randy's Wife)
A few years back I had a Injector stick and the DD ran wild. The local DD shop told me to back out the setting and run it, which I did for several weeks. I kinda forget how I backed it out been a while.
Sounds like he has now blocked off the bad injector filled it with oil and has it running will baby it along the additional 180 miles hopefully
On my old truck with the 8V-92TA, it broke an injector lifter retaining clip so that the lifter jumped around until the push rod broke making my engine a 7V-92TA. I drove from New York back to Los Angeles, and didn't feel too much difference except at idle with the misfire. Detroit 2 strokers are really resilient beasties. Good Luck, TomC

Hi All
We made it home to WI safe and sound today, just wanted to say thank you to all that helped with ideas and suggestions especially Daytona Pete who has helped us on this and other occasions. Sorry it was too cold for him to come out and play though.
After we finally made it down to Daytona on a 5v92 we were able to get the injectors replaced through Florida Detroit Diesel and I was able to make the repairs myself.
Had an interesting time while there to say the least we were out enjoying ourselves at the Broken Spoke and Iron Horse Saloons and finally started to head back to the bus however we were one bike short???? One of our group and a local persons bikes came up missing.....that sucked. Unbelievable but true about three hours later a Sheriff called to tell us the bikes had been located and were within a few miles of where we were staying in a hotel parking lot on the interstate waiting to be picked up and hauled off. Thanks to Lo jack they were found before that was able to take place!
If your ever in WI and need any help feel free to give me a call I am centrally located between Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL.
Thanks Again
Randy
