Title: Spray foam pictures and paint pictures
Post by: ilyafish on February 26, 2009, 04:15:19 PM
FINALLY!  Some progress that is a little bit more visible and noticeable.  Due to weather, only got the first coat done on one side of the bus.  But heres the pictures! (I thought i took pictures of when the side was completely painted....guess not, too dark now)

Those are great shots.

You beat me cold Bro.  I painted on a dirt road in front of a barn but you even had overhead trees and a coral next to you.  Just think, you could have spent 10 to 20 grand for that job.  What do you have in materials...total.

The foam guy scared me.  He didn't seem to be wearing an aspirator.  Did I miss something?  Is he still with us?  The foam "job" looks exceptional.

More pics, please.

John

Thanks for the feedback guys!  As far as the spray foam guy....yeah that concerned me.  But hes been doing it for like 15 years or so, so i dunno....i guess hes okay with it?  Unless its some different kind of foam than usual, but i doubt that.  No clue.  I just kinda stuck my head in every 10 minutes, and then went outside.  Did not want to go near that stuff while it was getting sprayed!

It looks to me like the finished foam is not level with the metal framing-looks like a lot of dips and craters in it.
Before I did my foaming job, I screwed 1x2 fir stripping lengthwise at 12" intervals to bring the foam above the level of the metal frame since any exposed metal will transmit heat or cold.  I now have 2.25" of sprayed foam and my bus is so well insulated that only two roof airs going down the road will keep the bus cool in 100+ degree weather.  I'm not necessarily saying you too should have 2.25"of insulation-just telling you how well it does work.  If your is less then that, now is the time to add more to what has already been sprayed in.  Good Luck, TomC

Hi folks,
If you look closely at the first picture of the foaming operation you will see that the guy IS wearing sone kind of breathing protection. You may have to put your glasses on or use a magnifier (like I did) to really see it, but it is there. I also thought there were a lot of areas that didn't look completely filled, but it probably looks better in person. Great progress there.
Thanks, Sam 4106

yeah its not as bad as the picture looks, i guess since the light is coming from the front, any dip and crater looks bigger than it is.  me and him checked and the foam was at least 2" throughout.  can't wait to drive down the road and hear the difference!
