Title: Rivit Noobie
Post by: MattC on February 19, 2009, 05:18:52 PM
Dooh!

So, I'm guessing I missed the chapter on rivet removal that states "Punch the core out of pop-rivets before drilling or chiseling to ease removal."

So I was about 1/3 of the way through removing the lower inner skin on my MCI, when it donned on me to use the punch bit for my air chisel to punch out the core of the pop rivet.  It takes about 0.5 second to punch the center, then about 1.0 seconds to come back with the chisel and chop their little heads off!

I just reduced the time to remove a pop rivet by one fifth.

As Carlos Mencia says; Dee Dee Deee!  :D

Don't feel bad I used sharp chisel and a big hammer. I did punch a few centers out and found with a couple hits it was faster just getting after it with out hitting centers out. I have to say my arm got very sore. I'm glade that is done.

I used a drill to make a hole in the rivot then punched in out. Sound like you are way ahead of me.

Have Fun
