Title: Foam Core Duct Material?
Post by: basil on February 03, 2009, 09:21:50 AM
Has anyone used a foam core material for their ducting?  It looks like it is backed by aluminum foil and simply cut and taped together with aluminum tape.  Seems to eliminate condensation and is easy to work with.

Basil, Yes I've installed most of it, I still have to build the transition positions to my heat pumps, I have 3 heat pumps from dometic, the total cost was under 180.00 and was extremely simple to install. I have a link but I haven't posted any direct pictures yet but there are some pictures at my site that do show sections of it.  Here is the link: http://www.insul.net/thankyou.html.  My site is the link below, good luck!

That is what we used. We installed our ducts about 8 years agos and no problems so far. What used was about 3/16" thick and came in 4X8 sheets (they will cut down to 2X4 pieces so it can be shipped UPS). When a corner is neccessary, lay the top piece on the bottom piece and cut both in a nice radius, then cut a strip to form each side and tape tegether with the aluminum tape. This rounded corner gives a much better air flow.  I will try to find a link to the place we got ours (it was in Lowell, IN).  Jack

This is what I've been suggesting for years for everthing from HVAC to generator box enclosures and air intake/exhaust ducting (use it foil side out for areas needing fire proofing) - FWIW
