Hi,
I noticed my 6V71 fuel line from the front bulkhead to the primary and secondary filters is dry rotted. What type of hose should be used and do you have any precautions in replacing the hose?
Thanks, Rich
Just remove the fuel lines and have them duplicated-make sure you tell the hose shop that it is for Diesel fuel. In Calif, we have the Hoseman. Good Luck, TomC
I went to NAPA and had one hose made up. They made it up as if it was a hydraulic hose. (they would not guarantee how the diesel would effect it)
I also built a hose myself using the steel braided fuel lines like they use in racing with the AN fittings. My supplier said he has used this many times with Diesel.
.
I went with steel pre-made up brake line(3/8) ten years ago, no issues since<<<Dan
My Neoplan has nylon fuel lines.

All new Freightliners and the fuel line to my generator in my bus is nylon. Easy to use-just cut and put the nut and compression fitting on and your done. Aeroquip type fittings are very expensive and really are not needed for the relatively low mileage use we give our buses. Good Luck, TomC

I use to work at a place that make up hydraulic hoses (Dayco, Parker, Synflex, Aeroquip) and we were always instructed NOT to use hydraulic hose for diesel fuel because we were told that the diesel fuel would eat away the interior lining of the hose after a period of time. If the customer told us it was for diesel then we could not make the hose out of hydraulic hose or we would lose our job because our company would be liable for fire damages or clogged fuel filters. The steel braided hose you like you made is what we always used since it is usually lined with a Teflon core lining which is compatible with diesel fuel and and the manufacturer would stand behind it for that use.
I just picked up 50' of Parker 221FR-8 from our government auction for $35.00. http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=64167F This has a neoprene center and is safe for diesel. I see by the web site it is a little pricey. Reading the above I'm going to use some to make a new fuel line to prevent future problems. I bought it for some hydraulic lines on my tractor but it's got better uses on the bus.
