I have been given a Davco 233 diesel pro filter. It is rated for 60 gph. Is the 8v71 total flow higher than that? Can I use that filter or do I need the 382? I have found gph use on some marine boards but I need total flow numbers that includes pass through....right?
If you get 7MPG @ 60 mph you will burn about 8.5 gals fuel in 1 hour. 5 MPG will burn 12 gal/hr. 3 MPG (what I used to get with my old hot rodded 8V92) will burn 20.

The "spill rate" (the amount of fuel returned to the tank) on a 2 cycle detroit is huge
(it's used to cool the injectors)
a 6V92TA pumps 62.3 GPH at full load
rule of thumb (you burn only about 20% of what is pumped at full load)
Hope that helps
Also 88.5 GPH with the high volume pump good luck
Crap, I guess I need to look for a 382 which has a 150 gph capacity.

Great information. I would not have thought so much fuel was flowing.
As Oldmansax mentioned the amount of fuel per Hr. x fuel cost ....... it's rather expensive per HR. to operate.
I never thought about it in that way.
Steve 5B......
Good info. I wasn't thinking about the returns....
Steve, when I was running that old 8v92, I was paying $0.19 to $0.25 a gallon for fuel.
If I had just put up a million gallon tank & stored fuel............ ;D ;D ;D

How does one identify a high volume pump and what is the gph for the standard pump?
