Title: Quickie shineup on 4106 siding?
Post by: OneLapper on January 08, 2009, 11:07:50 AM
Here's the deal:  My friend's sister is getting married this weekend.  She asked me if I would use my 4106 (converted) to pickup the groomsmen and bring them to the church, then after the ceremony bring the wedding party (minus bride and groom) to the reception!

I'd like to do a quick cleanup of the siding, which is original, the morning of the wedding to spruce it up.  Are there an recommendations for cleaning up the aluminum siding that doesn't take a week to do?

Thanks!

Mark

Mark, I use a product called "super clean" at Wall-Mart in a purple 1 gal. bottle. It has a light eche in it that brightens the aluminum, I use it in my high pressure washer and spray it on, let sit, spray it off.>>>Dan

Dan, do you know if the siding on a 4106 is anodized?  I have a cleaner by Zep (ZEP-A-LUME-E) that I use on my car trailer and the sanders we recon at work, that stuff is awesome.  But, it says "DO NOT use this product on anodized or highly-polished metal surfaces (including stainless steel and aluminum)" so I've never tried it on the bus.  I have a spare cargo door that I can try it on but I assumed that the siding was anodized.

I wiped my aluminum with brake fluid, worked great and only took about an hour to do the whole bus. Quick and easy! ;D

Mark, it is anodized for sure, not likely that it has been removed, which is a horrible job. The best you will be able to do is clean it very well and brighten it some.>>>Dan (course you could white wash it and pray it doesnt rain)

I'll hit WalMart on my way home and see if I find that cleaner.

Thanks

HTH,

I'll try that on the spare cargo door I have.  I have lots of brake fluid!

DOT 3 brake fluid was used. I was surprised on how well it did look. I know it sounds silly, but in a pinch it made our 40 year old anodized aluminum look 20 years younger! ;D

Just be sure not to get brake fluid on any painted surfaces, it is a good paint remover.
