Title: Autonet
Post by: NewbeeMC9 on January 08, 2009, 07:28:46 AM

http://www.autonetmobile.com/ (http://www.autonetmobile.com/)

Anybody used this?  Opinions?

I've heard you can still text when cell phones don't so maybe you can still use use this when cell phones don't work.

Saw it on news this morning and my only interest would be as a potential customer.

Thank you for the link. Interesting.

This is nothing more than a WIFI router with built-in wireless aircard.  There are other less expensive routers like models from Kyocera that do this.  Sprint allows use of a router.  I don't know if Verizon changed their policy on use of a router or not.

Autonet's monthly charge is $59 which is pretty much in line with what Sprint and Verizon charge.

This is nothing revolutionary.  It is just marketing a product towards a specific market.

I saw the $500 hardware cost, may be cheap compared to satellite, but still count's me out for now :-\

If you have an air card, here is a wireless router for it.  No ties to this company, only an example of what is available.  Jack
