Title: MACC fest in july
Post by: cody on December 29, 2008, 05:47:35 AM
I want to get you guys thinking about the MACC, (Musicians Against Childhood Cancer) bluegrass festival, it's held the last week in july in columbus ohio each summer, it's a benefit for St Judes Hospital and put on by Darrel Atkins, most of you in the music industry will instantly recognize the Atkins name, he's a good friend and a great guy.  It's the most important stop of the summer for us for personal reasons, the top performers from all over the country gather there for over a week of picking and jamming and just having fun.  It's so important that last year I left the cardiac wing of the hospital to drive our bus to columbus for it.  Foolish? maybe but thats how strongly I felt about it and besides it's a lot of fun.  The Hoover Y park where it's held has lots of room for buses and each year a few buses come in, a few are from right here on the board, I'm thinking it would be nice to see a bunch more buses from here parked there. It would be the perfect time for anyone in the blisteringly hot south to head north to ohio for it and lots of busnuts are already in the states around ohio so it's a short drive for many of you, we could sure use some more people sitting in on the jams and just having fun.  A bunch of us gather each year in a particular spot and enjoy the fest, our jam goes nonstop late into the night and many of the performers after they do their gig on the stage come up to jam with us, we sure got room for a bunch of busnuts to join in too, give it some thought, check out the website, just google Musicians Against Childhood Cancer, or ask me any questions.

Terry, I know it's well in advance but some times the lead in time is important, every year I find a couple of buses from the board here on site, we just need more of them.

If the cash flow works out, we'll be there Cody.  It sounds like an interesting experience and it certainly is a worthy cause.  If I do make it there, you have to introduce me to Rhonda Vincent though.  ;)

Would be good to have you there mike, you never know who is going to stop by the bus, just have to take your chances lol. But we generally got a jam going that rivels the one on stage, maybe cause it's the same crew lol.  Interesting, everyone wants to meet rhonda lol, what about allison, we can't forget her lol.  Chad contacted me in regards to possibily doing a work up on the MACC, it's a great cause, one that has been close to my heart for a long time and one that we, as a bus group, should give some serious thought to supporting by attending, it's centrally located being in columbus ohio, has outstanding entertainment, plenty of nice, level parking for buses, great food venders, the Hoover Y park where it's held is huge, it has potta potties, showers, water, a sewer sucker makes daily rounds for the holding tanks.  What better reason could a rally be held for and the latter part of july is the perfect time in ohio, I'll be suppling chad with whatever information he needs to do a workup on the MACC if he is still interested in it.  Anyone wanting to check out the fest can do so at   http://www.bluegrassclassic.com/

See how ya are?  Sheesh!  ;) :D

Hey, I'd love to meet A.K., maybe even more than Rhonda.  But it was Rhonda in your jam session last year, so I thought that would be easier to work out, lol.  Is Allison Kraus and Union Station going to be MACC this year (they don't have the 2009 roster up yet)?

I'm sure Chad will still want to do the write up.
