This time of the year brings back special memories of the past. As a former Southeastern Greyhound Driver,Christmas was always a busy, joyful, happy, and rewarding time of the year!To see the joy and anticipation of my passengers(both young and elderly) ,made the Christmas Season glow.As they chose to travel to see their loved ones ,and friends as well. Some would endure days of travel, and waiting in stations, some only hours. I particuliary remember the Christmas of 1974 ,having a almost new MCI-7 fully loaded, and standing 17 people in the aisle(total of 64 people).I was the 18 th bus load on this 4:30 am New Orleans schedule, and had to leave at least another bus load behind! But;there was still a peace and joy in their heart,no fussing,/or fighting; It was Christmas time! Then another memory/or snapshot;was a Christmas dispatch involving a entirely different approach to the season. I was assigned a GM 4106 from our Winston - Salem terminal, Fully loaded with ORANGES. When I say fully loaded ,I mean baggage bins, and every seat. I can remember the fragrance,as I came down the WVA Turnpike,Certainly this was somebodys Christmas ,as well! All in All people are a very special part of every bus drivers memories, Just thought I would share a couple of snapshots from years gone by! I am sure ,if your bus could talk,it tooo, would have some similiar thoughts!
Merry Christmas, and May God give you and yours precious memories!
Thanks for sharing, must have been very special for you to remember so fondly.
Trailblazer 2...that was a great story of your pass time. I truly enjoy reading it twice.
Also good to see you back on the board.
Merry Christmas
Sojourn for Christ, Gerald
I must ad to this post that a lot of the buses we drove then are probably recycled by now. The
roads have been changed ,along with the stations, but memories are something that stay with you! So,start this New Year off right; decide to make some Memories, some Great ones!
