Title: westerbeke 15Kw

  One can tell me if a older diesel Westerbeke 15.0BTD  15Kw marine genset showing 1600 hrs worth $5K?
purpose= house backup.

New it would be in the $12-15,000 mark (marine gens are more expensive).  1600 hrs is just broken in. I would buy it if I were in your shoes.  Do you need that much power for standby?  Course then you could run just about everything in the house with it.  Good Luck, TomC

   Thanks Tom,  I got it & all ready got a rad with electric fan. But I may have pick a too small rad(taurus),  will see.

Actually that radiator should be big enough.  After hearing the 12v electric fan that is on it run, you might consider going to a squirrel cage blower with a 120v belt driven motor.  I have a 10.5" squirrel cage single inlet sucking the air through to the blower powered by a 1/2hp two speed totally enclosed fan cooled ball bearing motor.  High speed during the hot day, low speed for quiet night time use (can barely hear it on low).  Works well and pulls lots of air.
