Title: Can you tell what injectors you have in an 8v71 from the serial # ?

Hey Folks,

Is there any way to check what injectors I have with out pulling vave covers?

My serial # is: 7087 7527

I have a hunch that the 75 in the second half is the injector size. Am I correct?

The only sure way is to pull one valve cover (easy) and look.>>>Dan

Rick, those many years ago when I used to work on Detroit's, there was an aluminum plate with a bunch of numbers and option codes stamped on it (in the grooved slide on one of the valve covers) which explained to the mechanic what options were built into the engine at the factory. These were coded, in typical DD codes, but if you had the matrix which explained them they told you which rotation the engine turned, injector size and all the pertinent information which you might need to repair the engine and order parts for the original configuration.

There was even a small square tag which needed to be removed and returned to the distributor when the 100 hour inspection was made. Those were the good old days.

But, of course, back then I worked for a DD Dealer. Since then many of us broke away from the dealer system and surfaced in the independent field. I was one who stayed loyal to the factory plan and left the aluminum plate on the engine as it was a road map for me.

But some, who didn't know, tossed that plate into the trash. Shame.  It used to be that if you had the serial number of the engine DD would remake the ID plate for you. Somehow I believe that went out the window when Penske took over.

So, other than the plate you'll have to remove the rocker box covers and wipe the round plug off and read the size on each individual injector because there's no guarantee that they're all the same...let alone matched.
