Small accident yesterday while jacking up bus, when I let the bus down the left front service door was open and sitting above a concrete curb. Long story short, it busted the hinges off. Where can I find new or used hinges. I plan to call MCI Monday to have some over nighted if they have them, but I don't know if they have parts for a 1971 MCI.
Appreciate any suggestions, we have a new casino lease at the TA truckstop in Mill City, Nevada effective the 19th and I wanted to take the bus down to get things set up. I had a bad transmission leak that we just got fixed yesterday and I want to get a few hundred more miles on the girl before we take any long trips but I don't want to take her out in the condition she is in, (like leaving the house with your zipper undone).
bcaddel,
First off about using the coach until proper repairs with new hinges. We have long used a large "wood", or "sheet metal" as an extra way of securing this door as the standard Duez fasteners have a habit of failing after yrs of service or someone likes tampering with them as it is so easy to do so with only a coin from ones pocket! We drill a starter hole through both the door and the metal bracket that hold the Duez fastener, then we use the next size up screw to secure it! Since doing this for 5 plus yrs I have never had a problem with the doors "coming" open by them selves anymore! I really feel like they were being helped open, but no proof. I would think you could do something similar with yours if only temporarily to be able to use it! I'd wire it or some how reconnect it somewhat where the hinges broke and then add security screws on the other end & I can assure you that it will stay in place until you can repair it proproperly!
Now for the hinges used you could try Nick@Nimco, Luke@US Coach or Sam@Caylor Supply! I don't have a # handy for Nimco or Luke, but Caylor's is 785-878-3405 FWIW ;D BK ;D
Hi;
Would you do a follow up when you get it fixed?
I also need that door and would appreciate what
you find for sources. I understand that MCI is
now handeling used parts, but I ahave not gotten
around to calling them. My door is bent after a
neighbor backed his car into the bus.
Thanks, Merle.
Thanks for input Bryce, I was thinking about a temporary fix if I couldn't get the hinges delivered by Tuesday. I think a screw or two and maybe a little wire will hold it together, but the wife really gives me a hard time when I do any temporary fixes. I think because she knows if it works, it will be that way for months/years to come.
Merle, looks like we both have several avenues to check out from Busted Knuckle list. If I find someone with the whole door, I will surly let you know. I plan to call MCI early Monday. I replaced the front air bags a couple weeks ago and they fixed me right up (for about $450) their number is 800-323-1238
ABC Companies in Fairbault, MN also has used parts call Dean Gregor @ 1-800-222-2875 ext. 156. You may have to leave him a msg, but Dean WILL call you back! He tries very hard to help folks out! He even tried checking to see if any of the Van Hools had the rear differential I needed recently or if anyone he knew would have one in a coach that was not in service anymore but not yet parted out! No luck but he tried!
Also I'd be willing to bet Sam Caylor will have the whole door! If not ya might try Don at Choo Choo Express bus garage in Rossville, GA (So. Chattanooga) 706-891-1242. Tell him "that guy up in Union City, TN" told ya to call!
;D BK ;D
Merle
I have been following up on Busted Knuckles contact numbers and so far everyone has taken the day off. I have left a couple of messages and said I would buy the whole door with hinges if that is what I need to do to get the hinges. I could use a new door but mine is really in pretty fair shape except for the hinges. I have no idea what the cost or shipping charges will end up being, but if your interested I will have a extra door that I will give you or sell you depending on what it cost me to get the replacement door with hinges.
If its under $100 (that might be an illusion though) for the door and hinges, I will give you which ever one I have left over. I see you are from southern CA and I have a son living in Riverside CA that we will be visiting in a couple months so I will even drop it off, if there is someplace we can hookup down in that area. I will let you know what I find.
Thanks bob, your idea sounds good to me.
Merle.
