i have OS X....Did you mean Window XP?
have also tried windows as well....what other system or Window version?
What browser are you using?
Sojourn for Christ, Gerald
sorry, i should have clarified....os x is the operating system on macs. so i tried that and XP.
browsers i have tried safari, firefox (in both windows and mac), and internet explorer. i have tried using my iphone and other computers to see if the problem was isolated with my computer or the network or my service provider....no luck with either one of those.
it seems like its a hit or miss....some people can get on to the site, others arent able to
I've not had any problem accessing Craig's site at all.... either from home or from the road on my laptop. I just checked it again and everything works fine. Maybe try bypassing the main page and going straight to the bus page, which is different than the one linked.
http://www.gumpydog.com/bus/
Good luck.
I haven't been able to access Gump's website for weeks and have tried multiple platforms.
W2K pro w/ IE6, FF2.X
XP Home, w/IE6, FF3.0
XP Pro w/IE6, FF3.0.4
same here...won't open . Kind of a drag as it seems to come up a a reference a lot.
I'm running windows Vista, connecting to the internet with a Sprint aircard, I have McCafee internet security package and can access his site with no problems ?? Jim
Maybe Craig just banned all you troublemakers!?! haha...
I'm down here at the Convention Center in New Orleans connecting with a free public wifi and his site came up with no problems.
Maybe he will see that people are having trouble with his site and put together a zip file of the contents for people to download. There are a lot of pages and links, and I wouldn't feel right doing it anyway since it is his stuff.
Songman,
I just clicked on the link you posted and this is what I got:

This is certainly an odd situation, Gary. I am also running XP and Firefox on all of my computers. I don't know why some people can get the site and others can't. Sounds like Gumpy needs to call his web host and see what they say.
I just clicked Songman's link and it worked fine.
Windows XP, Firefox, AVG suite, High speed through the phone service.
Darned compukers are always messing with us...
happy coaching!
buswarrior
works for me on XP and firefox
JIm
works good for me on Vista.
I just connected with his website on our home (desktop) computer using XP and a DSL connection through Embarq phone company. I also went to the site through one of our laptops with XP using a Millenicom "air card". No probelms on either computer. Jack

that's your error, not gumpy's. do an ipconfig /all at a command prompt which you can get to by typing cmd at the run button. in more english: hit start, then select run, type cmd and clik OK. at the prompt in the black box that comes up, type ipconfig /all. it should tell you about your network configuration.
you could also type on the next command line " tracert www.gumpydog.com" without the quotes. that should should you everywhere it hit on the way to gumpy's web sit. where it stops telling you is where your ip problem is.
hth
manasst,
when I type in "ipconfig/all" I get a message that says: Windows can not find ipconfig/all. etc. .
Thanks for helping out.

add a space after ipconfig <space> /all
OK, I tried that and a "black box" shows up for a micro-second and then disappears!?!? I've tried it several times now and I can see it has info in the box.

you've got to type cmd on the run line, then hit enter, then in the black box type ipconfig /all.
" hit start, then select run, type cmd and clik OK. at the prompt in the black box that comes up, type ipconfig /all and hit enter. that will show you some information about your network. when you see your network info, you can then clik the "x" in the corner to close the window
just for fun,
click start,
click run,
type cmd,
when the command box comes up, type, "clock.avi" (without the quotation marks), and press enter.
Make sure you turn the sound up quite a bit, the little video is almost impossible to hear otherwise.
Just a helpful hint :D

manasst,
It got as far as 16 hops then is says "request timed out".
Must be with my server wildblue.com
My brain hurts. I am glad my computer will let me on to Craig's site. I'm not that old but have to say I didn't think I would live my life around the use of this box. At work when server or power is down not much to for the ladies in the office. Just few years ago it wasn't a problem. How times change so fast.

Surprise! Surprise!
Santa's been sharing his Naughty and Nice list with me, and well, some of you just didn't make the grade, so.....
consider this your lump of coal!!

Here's what I know...
There's been some recent work on the network on which Gumpydog resides. It was down for a few days due to a missed cable connection, but we got that fixed and it's been up and running for a couple weeks.
However, last weekend I was in Iowa at a hotel, and I noticed I couldn't get to it from my laptop. My Father-in-law could not get to it, either, and he mentioned he hadn't been able to get to it for several days. So I contacted the guy who hosts the site. He said it was up and running, and he had no problems with a couple different browsers. I contacted my son who was in CO, and he had no problem either, so I assumed it was an issue with the hotel internet connection, since we were having significant problems with it anyway. When I returned home, I found I had not problems getting to the site, from the same laptop I had in IA. So that just confirmed to me that it was a problem with the hotel setup.
Then I started noticing some posts on the board saying some people couldn't get to it, and then today I got a PM from one of the nuts saying several were having problems. That's when I found this thread.
The status is that we're looking into it, but right now, we don't have an answer. I suspect it's related to individual ISPs somehow getting filtered or possibly a comm error. Might just be a configuration issue, as some new software was installed, and I know he hasn't fully configured it for certain things such as Ping.
In the mean time, for those of you who asked about downloading, you have my permission to download anything on the site for personal use. A couple years ago, I zipped all the directories for a fellow to download for his father who didn't have internet. I don't think these files are still on the site because we were running low on space, but will check and get back to you. If not, I can zip individual directories and upload a few at a time. You'd still need to find someone who can get to the site to download them for you.
I just love these little bugs!
:(

i think it's due to your state electing a comedian to office. now everyone knows congress is a joke :(
some states have no sense of humor and certain ISP's have barred mn websites as not being serious websites to visit. :o . You've probably been fudging on content (private joke :-X)
try hosting it at a more serious site like ours ;D

Fortunately he hasn't been elected yet.... but it won't be long if they keep "finding" more ballots that were mysterious lost.
Of course you knew Minnesota was an Indian name.... for Florida!
I'm sure the website is not being barred because it's in Minnesota, because the host is actually in IA. Now, that's another subject altogether which could get me barred for a lot of places! ::)
Was just thinking last night that it's about time I started fudging my time for the year. Too bad you won't be passing through the area. ;)

Heck I'm in Belfast Northern Ireland and I had no problems! It went right to it with no delay. Sorry you are having so much trouble, someone doesn't like you or your 'puter! ;) Just kidding, you have to have either an ISP or OS problem, check everything cause you're missing a great site!
Paul
"you have to have either an ISP or OS problem, check everything cause you're missing a great site!"
Problem is I don't know what to do! I don't know what I'm looking for that would indicate to me what is the problem. I'll have to wait until my computer programing children are available around Christmas time.
This is the only site (Gumpys) that I have ever had this happen to, whatever that is worth??
Thanks for all your help.
I have confirmation from two of the members on this board that Gumpydog.com is back up and running for those that were having problems accessing it. It seems maybe a new firewall was causing some issues, but that seems to have been resolved.
Please email me if you find you are still having troubles getting to it.
And who knows, maybe this winter I'll actually get some updates done. Actually, I nearly have a fresh water distribution page complete. Maybe before the end of the year....
craig
Still working fine for me! I just accessed it using my LG Voyager while cruising west on I-40 at 80mphAnd let me tell you... While these advanced phones are cool, surfing orums and sites on them is a lot of work!!
songman....agreed! sometimes i question how smart i am with my iphone....i will admit i have responded to posts on this board while driving....probably not the smartest thing in the world. almost as dumb as switching drivers in the bus while going 80 down an interstate!!!!
on another note, gumpy's site works fine for me now. like craig said, once the firewall issue was fixed i had no issues. i would assume that if i can access it, anyone else that had issues accessing it can too
I'll suggest hot swapping drivers at speed might be found safer than the distraction of electronic gizmos and phones while driving....
We need to apply for some funding, conduct some tests, write an inconclusive report and seek further funding to better understand our inconclusions....

ME! ME! Pick ME, Please!!
;)
I'm with RJ on this one......That is if it's OK with him! ;)
I'm in :) :) :) :) :)
I'm not that talented! I'll admit that I have sent text messages on my old phone while driving but since I got this one with the full QWERTY keyboard I am a two thumb typist! Don was driving while I was surfing.
But you can count me in on the hot swap test. I have never done it but I have seen it a million times in the old days when I was traveling with Merle. It always impressed me!
Hot Swapping
I have never heard it called that, but the wife and I do it often in our MC7. I have thought about the safety of this manuver but it sure seems to work well and keeps us moving down the road.
Is this a common pratice or is it considered too risky?
its not risky if your good at it ;D
what are your hot swap techniques? what we do is find a long straightaway, the driver gets up and holds the wheel and lets go of the gas, and then the other person hops in from behind the seat and hits the gas, and then grabs the wheel.
however now we will have to rework this technique as i am building a wall behind the drivers seat
Two words:
Cruise Control!
i dont have that option on my MC9 :-(
The aforementioned 'old days' didn't include cruise control either. They were done just as described. And they were also on an MC9. Having the wall and the shifter in the way does make it a little more exciting. The funny thing is that the guys never seemed in a hurry to do it. They took their time and it was very smooth.
We also take our time doing the Hot Swap, since staying in one lane is fairly easy, the most important thing is making sure there is no one in front of you because using the Brake for those 10 to 15 seconds is out of the question.
I have to admit I always get a little rush each time we do it, but at 60 years old it doesn't take too much to accomplish that any more.
