Need some advice on this....I am looking to install one in my coach.
I am also looking to have the capability to install an intercom and have different speaker systems that i can select. For example, i will have a speaker in the drivers area (which is going to be closed off), speakers throughout the coach in the living areas on another system, and each bunk to have a speaker on its own system. So if its 3am and person A wants to ask the driver something, hes not coming through the rest of the bus and waking up persons B, C and D. Or if the driver wants to contact person B and person C is taking a nap, the driver can communicate by selecting just the living areas and person B's bunk (in the event they are in it), and person C wont be woken up.
Rather than an intercom, why not check out some of the remote phone systems that are at radio shack, office max, etc. some of them have 5 or 6 phones that link to a console, you can call each other, and each person can carry their phone to the bedroom, bunk, living area, etc. also, if you plugged it into a real phone jack at some venue, you could actually receive calls and forward to the appropriate extension.
i didn't actually try this, just thought about it. because we have a home based business, we have 16 extensions and the capability of 8 phone lines. ours are wired, but the newer systems aren't. the only issue would be keeping them all charged, especially when boondocking.
just a thought.
Hi Elliott,
This seems real easy to install and use..

Good Luck

Nick, that seems perfect. I think for the sake of simplicity i may rethink my design a little bit and make things a little more straight forward.
Or invest in a megaphone ;D ;D ;D ;D
We always did the phones too and that is what I will put in my bus. The ones we used in the past had 6 buttons and each button would ring a specific phone. Phone 1 was the driver. Phone 2 was the bathroom. Phones 3, 4, and 5 were bunks. And Phone 6 was the rear lounge. Just press the button and the corresponding phone would ring. And you can have a private conversation with whoever answers. Not all that important for a couple, but on a band bus it becomes more important.
This got me thinking a bit, and I was wondering about a multi channel system that would let each station listen to a different music source (Like the TV, whatever was playing through the stereo system, the CB radio, or whatever) It would be like a jumbo jet where you select the station you want to listen to, but the announcements from the captain override whatever the music channel is playing.
hmm....i like that idea. i was thinking of a similar thing with tvs. since i am putting tvs into each bunk, i was thinking of hooking them together so that lets say someone was watching a movie on the big tv in the lounge, you could tap into that from your bunk and watch it as well, or change the channel and watch your own thing.
chances are the way i will do this is by utilizing splitters and auxiliary inputs. WEC, with multiple receivers, you should be able to accomplish the same thing, again with splitters and aux inputs. Then again, if you have multiple receivers, then your problem is already solved. Im sure there are some high end units that would do this work in one unit, but im sure they would run quite pricey.
In Merle's old MC9, he had a camera mounted behind glass in the top cap. He could sit in his lounge in the back of the bus and watch the road. If he felt like the driver was driving crazy he could take a look and then call up there and see what was going on.
I've thought about the thing of letting the people in bunks connect to a main movie as well. And when I had the RTS, I thought about putting the camera up front since I had glass up there anyway. Since I got the Eagle I scratched that idea. But I have a media center set up at home where each TV can select from movies on the server. I see no reason not to do the same with the bus. Don't know how to incorporate an intercom into that though.
Dale, the concept of a forward facing camera connected to a digital recorder mounted in a protected space in the mid section has a certain appeal too. It could serve to prove "that so and so cut right in front of me officer".

I am no network engineer,
but it seems you could put laptops at each place and achieve all those request and then some using bluetooth and or wifi,
it's a computer,
it's an internet devce
it's stereo
it's an DVD player
it's a communicator
and it's HD :D
just A thought
