Dale,
I noticed from the pictures you posted of you Model 20 when you picked it up that the exhaust unit above the engine had been removed and replaced with straight pipe. It looks like a resonator and mine has a heat shield around it. I have a certification plate from Ingelhard Metals that refers to a catalyst mounted above the engine. I wonder if that sucker is full of platinum. Have you or Don any information about this unit, hell, I could be rich!
How about some updates on what you are doing and how the 20 is comming along. I also hope you will keep us posted on what you guys do to make it run once that time comes around because I'm out of ideas with mine, although I had the A/C belt off for a trip last month and that made alot of difference as well as 1/2 MPG.
Thanks, Larry

Yours is different than mine? I figured the only thing that was different than stock was the electric starter in place of the air starter, and the A/C unit being gone. I don't know about it being worth anything but I think I would like it better if it was anywhere other than on my bus!
We haven't had time to do much yet. I just strapped the caps on it to try to keep some weather out. We've been traveling alot and no slowing down for a couple more weeks.
My bus actually runs great although it tops out about 73-74. It runs smooth and only has one minor oil leak at the front seal. As far as making it run, I am pulling the 6V92 and replacing it with an 8V71 turbo that Don is building for me. I'm going to redo the exhaust with 6" pipe and run duals. I would like to find an HD4060 but probably won't be able to afford that till a later time. I'm also planning to change to a truck axle and get rid of the drop box and use a straight driveline. Other than that, about all I am planning is to have an air intake on the top of the bus instead of trying to get enough air through the little side vents. I got the idea from Duane's scoop he put on top of his bus. I think I am going to try to incorporate mine into the fiberglass cap instead of just having the scoop.
Oh! I am getting rid of the belt that is running the hydraulic pump and switching to a great driven hydraulic pump. I am getting rid of the big ole gear driven alternator and putting the hydraulic pump there. I'll just put a belt driven alternator on the front of the engine to keep my batteries charged. I am just going to use 3 Type 31s for starting. I'm moving all my batteries and electronics and putting my generator in that area.
I guess I do have a lot of plans! Just gotta get time to do it!
Dale, So an 89 Eagle 20 runs a dropbox? I would have thought they had done away with them before that. What was the last year for the dropbox? Thanks Tom Y
Dale,
What will the HP be for that 8V71 Turbo that Don is putting together for you? That unit should equal "precious metal" in terms of performance. Right? After cooler? Intercooler?
John
Tom, I don't really know when/if Eagle dropped the drop box. I thought that was just a fact of having an Eagle. Quite a few people have done away with them.
John, I'm going to go with an air-to-air cooler. That is another reason why I want to move my air intake to the top of the bus. Then I can put the air-to-air on the curb side of the bus. Don has built the same engine to be up in the 650HP range. The problem in an Eagle would be keeping it cool. We're going to build mine in the 450-475 range. I don't care so much for going fast, but having to run top end all the time like I do now to cruise at 74 is not very efficient. With the new engine, I should be able to back down to a good rpm and get the best fuel economy too.
I just posted a link that answer your question in the wrong post.

TomY, the model 01 did not use a drop box, the drop box came along with the bogie axle Eagle used it till 1998 when the last one was produced. The Mol built Eagles built in the 80's did not have a drop box.You can do away with the drop box when using the ZF transmission there is a lot of Eagles on the hiways without the drop box. Good luck
Thanks Guys. The rear in my 5C came from an Eagle complete with the dropbox. Tom Y
Dale,
Sorry to kick this back up to the top but I wanted to let you know that you will need to change the water pump for the defrost and drivers heat to a 12 volt unit since the A/C and 24 volt alternator have been removed. That pump is above the engine on the drivers side and is almost impossible to service or change without the engine being out. Get it when you have it apart if you want defrost/driver heat.
