Almost 1" this morning, it's coming down hard.
Central New Jersey 10/28/08 :o
Southeast PA - Heavy rain, mixed with some flurries, but no accumulation. Don't bet on the Phils finishing the game tonight.
Update: Phils game for tonight (Tues) HAS been cancelled.
yes it is! ps....out of curiosity, ive always wondered....how do mc9's handle in heavy rain and snow?
if it makes any difference, we have all new tires on the drive axle which resemble snow tires....the tread is i would say roughly 5"-6" tall

Hi Peach,
10" of snow shouldn't ever be a problem for a 9 except on mountains and ice.
Now, stopping a 40,000lb monster in snow/ice is another story....
If ya don't have to, don't risk it!
Nick-
Wow!!! Snow! It isn't even Halloween yet. Glad SW Oregon is so nice. Thirty five miles from the Pacific. Got down to mid-low 40's last night, a bit chilly this AM, predicted high hi 60's, lo 70's. Sunny, 20-40% white clouds, blue skys, no smog, infinite visability. Enough. HB of CJ :) :) :)
one inch on the valley floor here at Cedar City UT, THREE WEEKS AGO!!!.>>>Dan
We're having a couple of days of grace here in Manitoba, low 50's today and tomorrow, hate to see what comes after this!!
Have fun!
72 here today, and 76 tomorrow. Abilene Texas, Woohooo!
You guys that have snow can have all you want. ;D I threw out my snow shovel when I lived in Arizona many years ago, just don't have a need for one! HA
Paul
Paul, you should kept that shovel for shade in AZ>>>Dan
Dan, the shovel better have AC but I will take 9 months of great weather over 3 months any day good luck
Ilya,
Stopping a MCI 9 in snow, if it is like a DL3 (I would assume that it is), is no problem...IF...IF...you are going the right speed...SLOW. Anyways we have done a significant amount of winter snow driving. The big statement is go as slow as necessary. But to answer your question. Our bus doesn't stop well in snow. We had an accident occur in our lane (the left passing lane), not very far in front. We were barely able to stop and merge into the right lane. The road was snow packed and very icy. (Of course we stopped to help...called 911...etc.) Anyways it doesn't stop really fast. We did also go down Rabbit ears, outside of Steamboat Springs CO, while the road was snowpacked and it was still snowing hard. It took a really long time to reach the bottom. We were crawling down if first gear!!! It worked and we were fine, and didn't have to use the brakes.
So the bottom line is manage your speed when on snow (anytime of course). Gear down go slow and try not to use your brakes.
That is just my style. The Pros on the board might have better advice.
God bless,
John
The F3500 I have in the shop has traction control and ABS on it, I suppose that would mean it would do better in snow, but I probably would take it just as easy as if it didn't. But still...."bus donuts?", that would be cool - if intentional.

since the game was cancelled already, i've requested all the snow for northern ohio be sent further East. what's a few more inches for you rather than me? Joisey can have it.
Tom you can keep the cold! It got a little chilly today. I had to actually get a sweat shirt but still wearing shorts! Grass is still green for the most part and plenty of Squirrels, Blue Jays, & Cardinals still in the trees. When I walked my hour this morning in the park, the gators were even sun bathing. Saw one about 12 foot and another with babies. Oh yea the chilly weather here has seemed to bring out the turtles. It's the most I have seen at one time in a while!
Be safe and warm!!!
Ace
I'm starting to become worried about my palm tree's catching cold, nothing more disheartening than a palm tree with the sniffles.
Cody!!!! How the heck are you and Libby (Alice)?
are you still up North so you can tell me how lucky i am to just get occasional flakes?
r u goin to visit Jack and the bunch this year?
are u goin b4 the snow gets deep?
First snow this year?
Not here in S. Ohio we had snow in Jan., Feb., and Mar., this year already.

Tom, the doc won't let me travel this winter, he says I just don't have the heart for it yet lol. He says if I get thru a winter of cardiac rehab, I may be able to travel again in the spring, meanwhile I'm at my daughters.
Cody you get better ya hear,And by the way we got a few inch's out here too(9-12 inchs of sun shine that is ;D)and kinda chillie also(87)LOL 8)
Cody,
Stay warm and do what the doc says and you can venture out into the wild blue yonder again!
Take Care My Friend,
Paul
If you are a competent snow driver in your car, the bus is really no different.
Actually, I'll choose a bus over anything else for the snow, the big plus being it's stability against the churned up ridges, just drives on through and doesn't get pushed sideways. Going and stopping, it's on a par with your car. Contrary to popular belief, tractor trailers are NOT king of the road under slippery conditions...
Be careful of what's under the snow this time of year, a little soft ground that is usually ok will trap a coach if there is snow cover.
Same as your car, if you spin the wheels in place, you're just digging the hole deeper. try it with your tags unloaded/lifted, and failing that, get your recovery line out and find a SUV or pick-up before you dig it in to tow truck depth.
Or put on your chains.
A recovery line and tire chains....? Never you mind southerners, this is a man's world up here, with man type busnut accessories. Same like the desert, another man's world.
If you are uncomfortable in snow, then maybe best to leave the bus parked until the plow and salter comes by.
Now, if we're talking freezing rain.... nothing is good in that crap, and discretionary travel should be curtailed.
happy coaching!

I drive a 1995 J4500 MCI, Cat Engine, 10 speed ZF. I got caught on some black ice, last February, north of Anchor Point, AK, with 50 passengers and 3 baggage bays full. Fortunately, it was early morning and no other traffic . Really interesting with a 45 footer going sideways down the road. And the temptation to step on the brake pedal was overwhelming. Had to super concentrate to keep my foot off the pedal.....Bill
