Title: How many still have $2.00 fuel in their coaches?
Post by: GM0406 on October 27, 2008, 05:53:46 AM
We do, and we aren't going anywhere until fuel comes back down to $2.00 again.  Just watch what happens to the markets to see if you think fuel is going back up anytime soon!!  We had one truck sit for 10 years and it ran like it had just been turned off.  And that truck was outside in the weather!!  Clue - The tanks were full when last operated.  No one should be in a hurry to run down and fuel up.  Just relax and stay home and enjoy the elections and things you need to get done around home anyway.  Join the rest of us who have cut fuel usage down to previously unseen lows.  Why one vehicle I have got me from SF Bay area in California to Salt Lake on less than 13 gallons.  That's 65 mph over Donner Pass and 75 to 80 mph all the way throught Nevada and Utah!  Just 12 years ago you couldn't even buy a car that would do that!  My wife, son, and other members of our family have cars that will easily do 54.8 miles per gallon since 2003!!  I have driven an Isuzu diesel pickup that gets almost 30 miles per gallon all the time for 23 years!

Most of us here should and can convert a small car to run on batteries to get up to 100 miles per charge.  This is not a matter of annoyance with high fuel prices, but it is a matter of having fun by driving up to the gas station and filling up your 10 gallon tank with 600 miles on the odometer!  Even more fun will be plugging in at night and not having to use any fuel at all!   I know that power still costs anyway, but it is more fun to be able to go without having to fill up with fuel.  The name of this game is to starve down the fuel companies until they understand that any attempt to raise prices again will mushroom into a cut in demand like they have never seen.  All it takes is a desire to have fun and beat the gasaholic mentality.

For you guys who want to get going right now in a small town or easily negotiated traffic area, look at what I have to deal with this.

I don't believe my coach has ever seen $2 fuel since I owned it.  The little bit in the tank when purchased might have been $2 fuel, but that is it.

Fuel prices haven't kept me from using my bus.  I didn't buy it and spend a bunch on converting it to have it sit.  My friends and I paid right at $4 a gallon for our labor day trip of 1,600 miles.

No $2.00 fuel in my tank. I use my bus too! I spent about $16,000 on fuel last year. .... not all in the bus.

Electric cars are probably good for folks who live in town. My house is 37 miles from the nearest settlement...... 17 miles from the nearest pay phone...... 40 miles from the first convenience store........ 12 miles passed World's End, MD.

Scooters & electric cars don't help me.

$3.999 for bio-diesel- the soybean, help the farmer, good lubrication, runs better than regular diesel.  was a full tank b4 we went down to the local fairgrounds so i could give my wife driving lessons.  now probably 10 gallons less.

$1.20 per litre for the last I bought. (x 3.8 if you want $/US gal or 4.54 if you want $/Canuck gallon)  We bought this bus to use it - fuel is a necessary part of that.  We'll pay whatever we have to and make it work. I have slowed down from 115 km to 95-100 km - that gives me about 2 MPG.  Parking it isn't on the agenda - if I wanted to do that I'd live in a house.

This summer I filled up during a trip to TN  ($4.39) and took an extended path back home to PA. When I arrived home, the local diesel price was about $4.85. I was down below a 1/4 tank, but just couldn't bring myself to visit the pumps.  I had no immediate long trips scheduled so I decided to wait. After 5-6 weeks diesel was down to $3.65 and I was THRILLED to fill up at that price.  So I have a full tank of $3.65 right now.

However, I think I have a really old can of Coleman fuel in one of the bays, so I think I do qualify for having <$2 fuel in my bus.  ;D
